A late (very late) July 4th
We decided everyone was probably tired of reading about my unfortunate travel adventure so this post will be a late entry from July 4th.
We've apologized before for not being the best bloggers on the net so we'll forego another apology. We actually had a great holiday and it was nice for me to do something other than go to work. Most of the day was spent swimming and grilling at Elizabeth's parents pool which was a nice escape from the heat. There were copious amounts of burgers, hot dogs, baked beans, chips, ginger ale, mosquito bites, etc. etc. etc. Zeke really enjoys to be outside so a majority of the time he was in either the kiddie pool or "swimming" with Elizabeth and Grace in the big pool. He got really attached to the floating shapes of sea animals so he would carry them around with him wherever he went, despite there being too many for him to carry at once. He would pack his little arms as tight as he could then walk a few steps until the cut-outs would start falling one by one. It was funny/sad to see him bend down and pick up one that had fallen only to drop one
more in the attempt. After a few tries I think he managed to get them all to the pool. I guess it's a good sign that he has determination and perseverance.............or he's extremely hard-headed. Later that evening we wanted to shoot off some not-so-legal fireworks we'd procured from a neighboring state so about 9 o'clock we started to arrange things in the cul-de-sac and find lighters, flashlights, etc. We wanted to start the show soon because we could already feel the wind picking up and see the dark clouds flying into the area. The kids started playing with the sparklers while we started shooting off some of the larger fireworks.
I didn't think we would have much time before the storm hit and sure enough, after we lit a few, we started to hear rain falling. Not too many minutes passed before the lighting started and we had to find shelter. It was a pretty hefty storm that knocked out power to my in-laws home not long after we ran inside. It rained pretty much every evening for the next few days so the remainder of the fireworks had to wait before reaching their explosive end. On the evening of the 8th we all met to finish the fireworks off and end our delayed July 4th celebration. I'm not sure when fireworks began to be associated with American independence but it's a great idea. It probably originated as real "bombs bursting in air" so I'm glad they made the shift to something slightly less dangerous. I got hit in the shoulder with a firework mortar while watching a fireworks show when I was younger so I know there's still some danger involved. Anyways, we all enjoyed our holiday and we'll make it a point next year to do some sort of reverse rain dance to keep the storms away.

Yeah, that's too bad about the fireworks. Abinadi was looking forward to coming back out, but either we didn't get the message or he didn't tell me that he got the message. Next year...
Zeke cracks me up... he's so cute.
i vote for the rain dance idea.
